Originally broadcast in 1987, Mister Ajikko was an anime adaptation of Daisuke Terasawa’s popular cooking manga serialized in Weekly Shonen Magazine from late 1986 to the end of 1989. The anime aired on TV Tokyo from October 1987 to September 1989, and this release marks the only official soundtrack album from the series. This analog LP reissue faithfully reproduces the original soundtrack album (original LP: K28G-7379, original CD: K32X-7125), which was first released on June 21, 1988. Note: This reissue differs in tracklisting from the 2004 CD edition that included eight additional tracks. The album features the opening theme “Renaissance Jounetsu” and the ending theme “Kokoro no Photograph”, both composed and sung by singer-songwriter Wataru Kuniyasu, known for writing Akina Nakamori’s hit “Gypsy Queen.” Lyrics by Ikki Matsumoto, arrangements by Tatsumi Yano. In addition, the album includes image songs, eyecatch themes, and preview cues written by legendary comedy-song artists Masayuki Yamamoto (Side A: Tracks 4, 6) and Tatsuo Kamon (Side B: Tracks 1, 7). Series director Yasuhiro Imagawa oversaw the composition, script, and production of this variety-style soundtrack album. Main BGM compositions and arrangements were handled by Daido Fujita (Side A: 1, 3, 5, 7 / Side B: 3, 5), with lyrics contributed by original manga author Daisuke Terasawa (Side B: 3, 5). Voice actor Tomohiro Nishimura also participated as both a singer (Side A: 8 / Side B: 7) and arranger (Side B: 7). The voice cast—including Minami Takayama, Yoko Kawanami, Miki Narahashi, Hirotaka Suzuoki, and Kenyu Horiuchi—appear in mini-dramas and chorus performances throughout the album. Comedic yet dramatic, this “Bravo!” soundtrack captures the heart of the Mister Ajikko cooking battles and stands as a true Showa-era anime gem. Now, 37 years later, this long-awaited vinyl reissue brings back the delicious flavor of a classic!
