Brandt Brauer Frick’s Daniel Brandt follows up his 2017 solo album Eternal Something with a new LP. Channels, like Eternal Something, is out via Erased Tapes, and across its seven tracks the record balances electronic and organic sounds in a manner similar to fellow Erased Tapes luminaries Kiasmos and Rival Consoles. Tracks often blossom from pretty kernels of synth into widescreen techno soundscapes pitched somewhere between Caribou and early Floating Points. Occasional flurries of brass - the woozy trumpets that come in towards the end of ‘Sailboats III’, for instance - provide the songs with stirring highpoints. With Brandt Brauer Frick keeping us waiting on the follow-up to their 2016 full-length Joy, Brandt’s solo material proves itself more than capable of filling the gap.
