Formed in Tokyo around 2018, Johnnivan mainly revolves around vocalist Johnathan Calrissian and keyboardist Shogo Takatsu. They quickly gained recognition in the Tokyo live music scene, establishing themselves as a standout act. Their unique style sets them apart in the Japanese indie rock landscape, where few can match their distinctiveness. In June 2020, they released their debut album, Students, followed by their sophomore effort, Give In!, in November 2022. Their performances have graced major Japanese festivals, including Summer Sonic. In 2024, they showcased their talents at the DMZ Peace Train Music Festival in Korea, a nod to guitarist Junsoo Lee’s roots, where they enthralled a packed audience with their innovative fusion of classic rock and electronic sounds, complemented by a high-energy live show.
Their eagerly awaited third album, Swimmer, is a remarkable work that places a strong emphasis on dance music while reflecting the band's unwavering commitment to exploring and evolving beyond genre boundaries.
