Xiexie is a four-member band formed in January 2020. Influenced by overseas indie sounds, they have continued to play a unique catchy and comfortable sound that combines indie pop, psychedelic pop, dream pop, alternative, and more. They have finally released their long-awaited debut album "wellwell"!
Since releasing their debut single "da da," xiexie has consistently released songs that combine a sound reminiscent of overseas indie music with catchy Japanese vocals, gaining support from a wide range of listeners, from the younger generation to fans of Western indie music. They have appeared at festivals such as "FUJI ROCK FESTIVAL "ROOKIE A GO-GO" and "SYNCHRONICITY," while also being selected as the support act for San Francisco skateboarder/musician Tommy Guerrero, broadening their scope of activity across genres and generations.
The band's activities are not limited to Japan. They have released albums from Topshelf Records, and have collaborated with Singapore's Subsonic Eye, which has been gaining attention in Europe and the US, and released a collaborative single "My Sunshine" with Thailand's Door Plant, making them closely connected to the Asian indie scene. Last year, they performed their first overseas show in Taiwan, appearing at the large festival "Ronin Festival" in Tainan, and their first headline show was a huge success. Their advance into Asia is accelerating, and their first record "XIEXIE / 33", released this winter, is available in many record stores in Asia, and their live performance in Tokyo has attracted many tourists from all over the country.
xiexie's debut album "wellwell" includes "please me", which features their signature psychedelic guitar riffs and vocals, Meari's catchy vocals, and a floating production that is exquisitely intertwined, as well as "city", a rock'n'roll song in the style of xiexie that has been popular since the early days of live performances. In addition, the ninth track, "kiwi", features vocalist Ernest from I'mdifficult, one of the most noteworthy bands in Taiwan right now, as a guest keyboardist, realizing a collaboration with Asia that is typical of xiexie. In addition to the new dreamy and psychedelic songs that are typical of xiexie, this album is packed with new xiexie that has never been seen before, such as the natural acoustic dance tune "my time", where acoustic guitar and percussion intertwine with a slightly melancholic melody.
