Legendary home to some of the most ground-breaking, forward-thinking music in modern history, Priority Records has returned to once again push boundaries and shift culture. Established in 1985, Priority helped bring West Coast rap to prominence with legendary groups like N.W.A., Dr. Dre, Ice Cube, Snoop Dogg and Eazy-E while also handling distribution for labels like Rap-A-Lot, Ruthless, Death Row, No Limit and Roc-A-Fella. The iconic label celebrated its 25th anniversary in 2010.
1991's Death Certificate is the second solo album from rapper Ice Cube following his platinum-selling 1990 debut AmeriKKKa's Most Wanted and his departure from gangsta rap supergroup N.W.A. While its predecessor was propelled by the full-bodied beats of Public Enemy production team The Bomb Squad, Death Certificate returned to the more West Coast sound of his famous former group with loads of 70's funk and soul samples yet his biting lyrics were no less indignant or controversial.
Divided into a "Death Side" and "Life Side," the relentless 20-track declaration pulled no punches, debuting at No. 2 on the Billboard 200 and No. 1 on the Top R&B/Hip Hop Albums chart thanks to the two quintessential Ice Cube singles "Steady Mobbin'" and "True to the Game."
