The legendary Minneapolis funk band, The Lewis Connection, famously joined by Prince, have reissued their legendary 1979 album in a newly remastered edition.
This album by Minneapolis funk band The Lewis Connection, which also includes 'Got To Be Something Here' featuring Prince, is legendary in that only around 100 copies of the original were pressed. This is a legendary album. This is the first time that Prince has participated in an album under someone else's name, and he was a guest on this album when he was recording his first album around 1976 at a studio in Minneapolis. The Lewis brothers, Pierre on keyboards and Joe on drums, were the core of the band The Lewis Connection, and Sonny Thompson, who was the band leader, was a bassist and vocalist who later joined the New Power Generation. Prince, who is at the centre of the buzz around the album, is featured on the fourth track, 'Got To Be Something Here', where he contributes on guitar and backing vocals. The song is a slow ballad based on spacy synths, with Sonny Thompson's tenor voice and the sexy falsetto chorus of the young Prince (then 17-18 years old) is so beautiful... Other tracks include 'Dynamic Duo', the most euphoric fusion-style instrumental jazz-funk on the album, and of course, a Minneapolis funk classic that can be enjoyed as a single work of art!
