Dylan Mondegreen is the moniker of Norwegian indie singer/songwriter Børge Sildnes. On his fifth album he has once more been working with Ian Catt (Saint Etienne, Field Mice and many more), who co-produced his third and self-titled album.
The title track and album opener A Place In The Sun starts with 30 seconds of ambient noise before a 30 piece Makedonian string orchestra and Børge’s home-recorded vocals kick in. «Is it so much to ask to grow old in a peaceful land?» he asks at the start of the song. And whether the songs are about politics, love, architecture, nostalgia or fatherhood, they also seem to share an underlying theme: where and what is home and where do you belong?
Through the nine songs on this album, you’ll find all the elements that have secured Dylan Mondegreen a small but loyal international following: rich arrangements, warm vocals and catchy tunes with lyrics that actually mean something.
From the indie soul on The Best Thing to the 10cc-like layered vocals on Sunless Summer, Børge avoids repeating himself while still staying true to his formula, eleven years after his debut album.
